Welcome to the Circular Futures Performance - this is a community dance performance, a chance to move together, and make a collective statement about the future we want to see.

We’re gathering two hundred performers from all backgrounds, all abilities and of all ages to participate in a piece dedicated to the transformational power of circular economies.

Although the implementation of circular principles in our linear, capitalist framework is complex, the fundamental concept is simple and mirrors nature's most basic cyclical systems. It is a lens through which we can imagine a regenerative and sustainable future for all.

In a call for that future we’re inviting our community to join us in large scale performance based on this most simple, most sacred element - the circle.

We’re excited to work with groups of all kinds, from professional dancers to curious novices. 

Here’s what you need to know to participate.

Who can do it:

• Groups of 6 - 30 come together to form a “Circle Group”

• All performers need to be available between 9.00 am and 1pm on Saturday April 24th, 2027

Preparing your Circle Dance

• WEAD team will run 1 or 2, 1.5hr workshops with your group to prepare material for the performance. Some groups may opt to keep it short and simple and simply use the material generated during the workshop - others may wish to continue developing the material after the workshops. We’ll coordinate the best option for each group together.

• Workshops start with a grounding in the basic principles of the Circular Economy & then we play with how to turn those basic concepts into movement and choreography

• Workshops can be held in your space, or at the Radium Runway space in Alameda Point between February 1st and April 16th 2027.

• At the end of the workshop(s) we will film movement material and share the video with  all the performers as a reference tool.

Performing together

• Your group’s circle dance will be part of a larger constellation of dances. In total we aim to have around 15- 16 circle groups come together for the performance.

• Each participating group will perform its own unique circular choreography, with moments when groups dance together and moments when individual groups take the spotlight.

• On the morning of the performance we will rehearse some very simple group movement including how we enter the space and how we close the performance together. 

Groups will need

To decide on a unique color for the performance. Shapes & style of outfit are performers choice, but the group should be clearly identifiable with a group color.

• To select one group representative to communicate with WEAD team/ act as a group lead for the performance day

• All performers need to sign the liability waiver, photo release form and performers guidelines (add link)

FAQs

• Can I join as an individual, or do I need to be part of a group?

We are working to schedule two free public workshops for those who want to participate but don’t have a group to work with. Info will be available on the website once they dates are finalized

• Is the performance accessible for people with disabilities or limited mobility?

The choreography will be created to suit the physicality and style of each group that we work with - all bodies are welcome. That said, performers will be on site for 3 hours (with breaks) on the day of the performance so participants should able to commit to being present and active during that time.

• Is participation free?

Yes, participation is free for both the preparatory workshops and the performances

• How many workshops will my group need to attend?

This will vary depending on the group availability and how ambitious the group wants to be in terms of choreography. We require a minimum of one workshop with the WEAD team,  and can offer a second if desired. Groups can also choose to continue to rehearse and build movement independently as long as the final choreography is filmed and submitted to the WEAD team for approval.

• Will the performance be filmed or photographed?

Yes, the performance, and some of the workshops will be filmed and photographed. Performers will be asked to sign a photo release form to participate
